About the Fire Department

The Progreso Fire Department was established in June, 2017, after two years of extensive planning by city leaders. The city’s development of its own fire department is a source of pride for local residents who previously had depended on the City of Weslaco for fire protection services. The new department will vastly improve response time to fires and other public safety emergencies such as natural disasters.

The Progreso Fire Department is staffed by approximately 25 volunteer firefighters, all of whom are certified by the State Fire Fighters and Marshals’ Association. The department has one fire engine and one tank and a full array of rescue tools and bunker gear. The fire station is centrally located to provide the best response time possible.
